Hello there! This is an interior render I made for a rendering competition a few months ago. I didn't win first prize though.
The main concept of the image is the duality of things here: the natural, bluish, cold ambient light of one room and the artificial, yellowish, warm light of the other. The exclusive interior with the aging of the walls. The order of books in the messy room.
I like the composition that is paralell with the rooms and looks strict and intentional. But at the same time everything that seem to be happening in the scene is off-screen: the vague shapes on the wall of the back room, the roll of canvas to the left, the strong diffuse light from the right and the ornaments on the ceiling all make the viewer want to look around.
The rendering part was pretty straight forward, no tricks there to mention. Although it was a really long process placing all things in the scene (thinking of the books mainly). And the drape caused me some troubles with the cloth modifier.
The post process was much more fun for me. At least half of the wall dirt was done in Photoshop.
